Wolverine: Revenge is quickly approaching an ending more brutal than anything readers have been expecting.
In a preview for Wolverine: Revenge #5 from Marvel Comics, fans get to see the action to come in the hit limited series’ final issue. Although the titular mutant antihero takes on his old nemesis Sabretooth in the desert, quickly take a turn for a locale as he hunts down yet another classic enemy in the form of Omega Red. Artist Greg Capullo discussed the blood and gore the series offers, noting that “Given my history in comics, it’s like wearing your most comfortable pair of shoes. My first gig in comics was Gore Shriek – the title says it all… This is not new territory for this blood-drenched penciller!”

Capullo also opened up about the creative process behind Wolverine: Revenge, most notably that he and writer Jonathan Hickman have been “working in the way that I was trained: Marvel’s plot style.” Capullo explained, “Jonathan affords me a lot of room to break things down in a way that feels right to me. Most of the dialogue is crafted after he sees the pages I’ve turned in. It’s very freeing. I feel that this is some of my best work in years as a result.”
Revenge introduces readers to a version of the Marvel Universe with little to no technology. This shift came after Magneto’s space-bound fortress, Asteroid M, crashed in Canada. The blast destroyed much of North America. Worse still, the ensuing electromagnetic pulse similarly wiped out nearly all technology, leaving the Avengers and their allies with a lack of resources to gather information and fight back against the various threats that have risen in the wake of Asteroid M’s fall.
Per the official solicitation synopsis for Wolverine: Revenge #5 from Marvel Comics, “TIME HEALS NOTHING! Not even a mutant healing factor can restore the gouge in WOLVERINE’s soul. Generations later, revenge is served cold, as the unspeakable crimes are paid for. SNIKT, @$#&$s! Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo’s legendary conclusion to their already legendary miniseries!”
Wolverine: Revenge #5 is set to arrive in stores December 25.

Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
