Every Anime Series Releasing in May 2024

Anime Series

2024 has been a fantastic year for anime series, with several highly anticipated releases such as Solo Leveling, Mashle, and Konosuba keeping fans engaged for weeks. However, we’re still in the beginning months of the year, meaning many more titles are bound to be released shortly. As with every year, we have a slew of semi-annual seasons scheduled, with popular titles like My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer being fairly consistent with no delays.

This April saw the release of some of the most anticipated anime shows, including the new adaptations like Kaiju No. 8 and Re: Monster, as well as sequels to the popular anime series like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Konosuba. As we head into May, it’s time to look forward to another anime lineup to keep us entertained. Although the coming month has a limited number of titles, you don’t want to miss any of them. With that in mind, here is the list of every anime series that will be released in the U.S. in May 2024.

My Hero Academia (Season 7) Anime Series

Streaming on Crunchyroll on May 7

My Hero Academia has been one of the most consistent and engaging anime series over the past decade, with Kouhei Horikoshi’s brilliant storytelling complimenting Studio Bones’ exceptional adaptation of the manga. The anime’s sixth season aired from October 2022 to March 2023, and the Hawks’ master plan of infiltrating the Liberation Army, where all the villains have been gathered, was successful. While the heroes were simultaneously targeting all the bases of operations, the surprising arrivals of Gigantomachia and the evolved Shigaraki nearly caused a catastrophe. ( Anime Series )

At the end of the season, All For One escapes prison to plot his revenge, which serves as a significant set-up for the seventh season. My Hero Academia Season 7 will be centered on the Star and Stripe Arc, in which a new hero squares up against All For One, who deems her the greatest obstacle standing in his way. Having said that, Season 7 will likely head into the U.A. Traitor Arc, where the rumored Class 1A traitor will be revealed.

This season is also more likely to reward Deku with a power-up since he came extremely close to learning about his One For All quirk in the previous season, resulting in some fabulous battles and more reveals. My Hero Academia Season 7 premieres on Crunchyroll on May 7, with episodes streaming weekly. ( Anime Series )

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc

Streaming on Crunchyroll on May 12

While Demon Slayer may not be as sophisticated a story as Attack on Titan or Vinland Saga, it demonstrates that simplicity at its best can compete with any top-tier anime, and one of the main reasons for this is Ufotable’s flawless and mesmerizing animation. The previous season, Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc, was phenomenal in terms of action and emotion, with Nezuko finally overcoming her vulnerability to sunlight exposure despite being a demon. This incident paved the way for future seasons, with Muzan deciding to finally make his move, and it is time for the main characters Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Genya to become stronger by undergoing rigorous training under Hashiras, who are regarded as humanity’s pinnacle of power.

Hashira Training Arc, also known as the fourth season of Demon Slayer (if we don’t count Mugen Train Arc as a season since it was originally released as a film), will reportedly consist of eight episodes in which demon slayers decide to go through many tribulations to manifest their marks, which will give them considerable advantages over the overpowered Upper Moons. We will be properly introduced to all the Hashiras in the new season, as opposed to a brief glimpse at the conclusion of the first season, and we will discover more about their motives, including a few backstories.

Although this season may not be as action-packed as the previous ones, it is essential for what is to come, especially given that the final two arcs will even outperform the Entertainment District Arc in terms of action. Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc will be released weekly on Crunchyroll beginning May 12.

Blood of Zeus (Season 2)

Streaming on Netflix on May 15

Despite not being a realistic take on Greek Mythology, Blood of Zeus has captivated audiences with its phenomenal storytelling. The series’ first season was released on October 27, 2020, with eight episodes that told the narrative of Heron, the son of Zeus, and his attempts to save Olympus and the Earth. Following Zeus’s unexpected demise, the gods’ realm is thrown into chaos, and a power struggle has erupted among several gods.

Heron, a commoner in Ancient Greece, must save the world from a demonic army that seeks to conquer both realms, knowing Zeus won’t be present to stop it. The second season will continue Heron’s adventures as he attempts to stop the demonic army while learning more about his heritage. Since Hades granted Seraphim a second chance after his death at the hands of Heron, we may expect him to return in the second season for revenge. The Blood of Zeus Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on May 15.
