Daredevil: Born Agains Charlie Cox Teases His 1st MCU Future

Daredevil: Born Again’s star Charlie Cox sees himself being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time. The MCU’s Matt Murdock plugs his future beyond the upcoming Phase Five TV series.

Speaking with Deadline at the 2024 Disney Upfront, Cox addressed his MCU future and how he prepared for Born Again, the spiritual successor to Netflix’s Daredevil series. Cox admitted Born Again is a “physically demanding show,” confirming he had shoulder surgery during last year’s Hollywood strikes while readying himself to reprise the role.

However, he expressed his love for the series and revealed how long he wants to continue playing the eponymous antihero. “There will definitely come a time where I’m not able to do it anymore. But, for right now, just keep doing the best job we can and loving it. I feel incredibly grateful to continue making the show and, hopefully, we got another 10 years in us,” he said. Twitter

Cox spoke alongside Vincent D’Onofrio, who will also reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin from Netflix’s Daredevil series, in Born Again. While the duo often collaborated throughout the creative process, Cox confirmed the two don’t share many scenes. Despite Cox’s comments about the physical demands of Born Again production, D’Onofrio claimed the latest Born Again teaser would show how much he thrives in the lead role. “You’re not going to believe anything he just told you because he’s really good,” D’Onofrio said.

Charlie Cox Returns as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again’s

Daredevil: Born Again’s marks Cox’s third MCU appearance, having previously played the titular lawyer-turned-vigilante in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo, which saw him fight Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez during a cameo in the opening episode. The series underwent a creative overhaul, with new directors and writers coming in amid behind-the-scenes concerns about its output.

Born Again filming wrapped in April following several delays, with a subsequent update confirming a new release window for the MCU series. Cox stars in Born Again alongside D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/Punisher), Elden Henson (Franklin “Foggy” Nelson), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Mariana-Fisk) and Michael Gandolfini (Daniel Blade). The series is also expected to see Cox return as Maya/Echo.

The MCU’s Daredevil series will feature 18 episodes, divided into two halves of nine episodes each. The show sees Daredevil and Kingpin put their rivalry aside to help New York’s citizens, only for their pasts to catch up with them.

Born Again premieres via Disney+ in March 2025.
