The Naruto anime regularly throws its heroes into deadly battles, and they don’t always survive. Still, from the shonen standpoint, it’s a good idea to keep the main characters alive, so fans don’t have to worry about losing their favorite charaters in spite of the dangers they face. So, characters like Naruto Uzumaki benefit from a great deal of plot armor, surviving dire situations that would spell doom for anyone else.
So long as plot armor is written in believable and interesting ways, fans can forgive how obvious it is that Naruto Uzumaki survived all those fights simply because he’s the protagonist. It’s true that Naruto’s plot armor was stronger than any jutsu, but at least he survived those fights in meaningful ways. Most of the time, fans trace the reason back to his status as a jinchuriki. Naruto’s inner fox demon didn’t just save his life — it made him who he is, giving a whole new meaning to conventional plot armor.

10. Naruto Had Enough Chakra to Defeat Mizuki With Shadow Clone
Many of the earliest examples of Naruto’s plot armor were understandably mild, since the power scaling was still limited. In the anime’s very first episode, someone like the forgettable chunin Mizuki was a credible threat to Naruto’s safety. Iruka Umino, realizing that Naruto was in danger, leaped into action to protect Naruto when Mizuki made his move.
Iruka was just the start of Naruto’s plot armor. Most importantly, and most impressively, Naruto won the fight himself when he used the Shadow Clone jutsu to make not one, but hundreds of copies of himself. By many standards, it was outrageous that Naruto could do that so easily, but he needed a flashy way to win the fight and protect himself.
9.Sasuke and Kakashi Shielded Naruto From Those Two Mist Chunin.
Another minor example of Naruto’s plot armor arrived not long after Team 7 took shape. At Naruto’s insistence, Team 7 embarked on a mission to escort Tazuna back home to the Land of Waves, only for a pair of Mist chunin to ambush the team. Naruto was wide open, and he would have been killed if it weren’t for Sasuke and Kakashi stepping in.
Naruto could only watch as his mentor and his shonen-style rival Sasuke Uchiha shielded him from harm in that sudden battle. Sasuke impressed everyone with his quick thinking and courage, which ended the battle sooner rather than later. Naruto felt humiliated, and he vowed to never run from a fight again.
8.Naruto Broke Free of Haku’s Ice Crystal Mirrors With Kurama’s Chakra.
Naruto did well when he and Sasuke fought back against Zabuza Momochi to free Kakashi, so fans wouldn’t call that particular victory a case of plot armor. Things were different when Team 7 faced Zabuza again on that bridge, with Zabuza bringing along his loyal companion Haku. While Kakashi faced Zabuza, Naruto and Sasuke took on Haku and his kekkei genkai.
Haku’s ice crystal mirrors, speed, and needles put Naruto and Sasuke in a tight spot. Sasuke seemingly died, and Naruto easily could have been next. At that moment, Naruto’s biju cloak is activated for the first time. It was an early example of Kurama’s vast chakra bailing Naruto out of unwinnable battles to make sure he survives to fight another day. With that power, Naruto overpowered Haku, and the day was won not long after that.
7.Jiraiya Saved Naruto From Getting Captured by the Akatsuki.
Not long after the Third Hokage’s demise, Jiraiya accepts Naruto as his student, only for the Akatsuki organization to strike. Naruto was caught unawares when Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki cornered him in a hotel, and Naruto stood no chance. He couldn’t even fight back when Kisame’s sword Samehada ate his chakra, so Naruto urgently needed backup.
Sasuke arrived first, only to lose badly to Itachi, so it fell to Jiraiya himself to serve as Naruto’s plot armor. Jiraiya created a toad stomach to reshape the battlefield, prompting Itachi to use his Mangekyo Sharingan’s Amaterasu to burn a hole to create an escape route. If it weren’t for Jiraiya, Naruto would have ended up in Pain’s hands for sure.
6.Naruto Summoned Gamabunta at the Last Second While Falling to His Death.
It was obvious right away that Naruto Uzumaki would get the benefit of plot armor to escape this threat — no way would this anime’s hero die because of falling. Still, Naruto himself thought he was in mortal danger when Jiraiya shoved him into a deep yet narrow ravine, and Naruto knew he only had one way out.
Naruto used Kurama’s vast chakra to summon the huge toad Gamabunta, the only toad large enough and strong enough to bail Naruto out of that situation. Jiraiya knew that Naruto had the potential to save his own life with this incredible power, so in a way, Jiraiya was also teaching Naruto a plot armor jutsu.
5.Rock Lee and Gaara Spared Naruto Kimimaro’s Wrath
During the mission to retrieve Sasuke from the Sound Four, Naruto came face to face with the deadly Kimimaro Kaguya, who was fiercely determined to enforce Orochimaru’s will. So, Naruto had no choice but to fight that formidble Sound ninja with a small army of Shadow Clones, but it didn’t go well. With his bone-based jutsu and curse seal, Kimimaro had an overwhelming advantage.
Naruto was on the verge of losing to Kimimaro when the taijutsu specialist Rock Lee arrived just in time to hold off Kimimaro, and Gaara arrived not long after that. While it’s true Rock Lee’s character arc was disappointing, at least he got one more chance to shine after losing to Gaara many episodes ago.
4.Sasuke Uchiha Conveniently Decided to Spare Naruto After Defeating Him in Their Duel
It was all but inevitable that Naruto and Sasuke would fight one another to conclude the Sasuke retrieval story arc, and they did just that at the Valley of the End. Naruto’s words failed to get through to Sasuke, so they clashed, with Naruto using his Rasengan and Kurama’s chakra while Sasuke wielded hise curse seal’s second form and his Chidori.
Naruto narrowly lost, and Sasuke could have finished him off for good. Fortunately for Naruto, Sasuke decided not to kill him, since Sasuke didn’t want to end up like his brother. It’s a good thing Sasuke was feeling sentimental, because he had Naruto’s very life in his hands at the moment.
3.Naruto Defeated the Six Paths of Pain Despite Impossible Odds
The Pain arc is considered Naruto‘s very best, even if it felt cheapened a little by Naruto’s ample plot armor and the persistent power of the talk jutsu. The Six Paths of Pain was seemingly unbeatable, since that squad killed Jiraiya and leveled the entire Hidden Leaf Village, but then Naruto Uzumaki arrived with Sage Mode and toads to turn all that around.
While Naruto fought well and earned his victory, it still felt like plot armor to see Naruto win against an unbeatable foe like that. When the stakes reach their highest point, the heroes never lose, giving Naruto the opportunity to miraculously convince Nagato and Konan to redeem themselves.
2.Minato and Kushina Both Gave Their Lives For Their Newborn Son
Naruto benefitted from plot armor on the night of his birth, as a flashback sequence showed. Around the time Naruto was born, Obito Uchiha attacked the Hidden Leaf Village with Kurama as his mount, and it fell to the Fourth Hokage to defend the village from that extreme threat. However, Minato and his wife Kushina couldn’t win the day, so they used their last resorts.
Naruto was briefly taken hostage, only for his Hokage father to bail him out, and Naruto was protected once again as Minato and Kushina blocked Kurama’s claw attack with their own bodies. The newborn Naruto was too young to understand what was happening, but his parents saved his life that night at the cost of their own, and he owed them everything for that.
1.Naruto Miraculously Defeated Kaguya Otsutsuki With Taijutsu
The final case of Naruto’s plot armor was one that he shared with the reunited Team 7. Just as Madara and Obito Uchiha were taken out of the picture as endgame threats, Kaguya Otsutsuki arrived to challenge the anime’s heroes. She was a divine being from outer space and the mother of chakra, so there was no conceivable way to defeat her.
Except, Naruto Uzumaki and his teammates did find a way to defeat her in this controversial, last-minute fight. Naruto and his friends used their bare fists to subdue Kaguya, and she ended up sealed away to end this threat. Since the anime brought her in out of thin air, it was obvious that something equally contrived would lead to her downfall, plot armor and all.
